Marcos Rojo opens up on the future of Manchester United star Edinson Cavani
According to ESPN (h/t The Metro), former Manchester United star Marcos Rojo has revealed his conversation with Edinson Cavani regarding a potential reunion at Boca Juniors.
Rojo left the club on a free earlier this year to join up with the Buenos Aires-based giants. Cavani, whose contract expires this summer, has also been linked with a move to Boca at the end of the campaign.
Such a move would be a loss for United, given how well Cavani has stepped in when needed. While he is far from a starter, the 34-year-old’s experience and ability make him an excellent back-up to call upon.
Rojo and Cavani shared the United dressing room only briefly but appear to have built up a good rapport. The former revealed that they are still in touch and maintain a good relationship.
“I talk a lot with Cavani. We were together for about four or five months in Manchester but he’s a great person and we have a good relationship.”
Interestingly, Rojo has revealed that Cavani speaks highly of Boca and has also insinuated that a player of his calibre would be welcome with open hands at the legendary club.
“It’s important that great players, the size of Cavani, who is a historical player from Uruguay and who played in very great teams, say they want to come and play at Boca.”
All signs pointing to an exit?
Rojo admits that the duo has spoken regarding a potential move and that Cavani has responded in the affirmative. He also went on to confirm earlier reports from the Argentine media that Cavani has talked with Boca vice-president Juan Roman Riquelme regarding a potential switch.
Ultimately, Cavani’s decision will also depend on his family. If his father’s recent comments are anything to go by, it might prove to be a foregone conclusion.
