Man United star pokes fun at teammate and Cristiano Ronaldo after international gaffe

Manchester United star Nemanja Matic teases Bruno Fernandes after Portugal fail to beat Serbia

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United star Nemanja Matic has teased teammate Bruno Fernandes following Portugal’s late frustration against Serbia.

Liverpool striker Diogo Jota gave Portugal a 2-0 lead in the first half but Serbia fought back to bring the scores level. Fernandes assisted the first goal and also made three key passes on the night, the joint highest alongside Dusan Tadic.

Portugal looked to have won the game late on, only for Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘winner’ to be chalked off. The decision was hard for the Portuguese players to take and Ronaldo even got himself a yellow card for his response.

Matic for one was amused and took to Instagram to take a potshot at Ronaldo and Fernandes. He posted a doctored image of the goalline clearance and tagged both the Portuguese players in his post.

The world cup qualifier finished 2-2 in Belgrade and Portugal skipper Ronaldo threw his armband away in disgust following the full-time whistle. We for one would be equally chuffed if such a clear goal was ever ruled out for United.

Channelling frustration to something productive

Matic’s post is tongue in cheek and hopefully, Fernandes will not take offence to it. The Portuguese star does not take kindly to not getting the desired results and will hopefully show off his frustration at United’s rivals.

United next face Brighton and Hove Albion at the weekend and will hope to get back to winning ways. With us having exited the FA Cup, the Europa League remains the best chance of us winning silverware.

The very fact that Matic could go on and make the post hints at the bonhomie within the United squad. While there is still a long way for us to go, the togetherness in the playing squad shows we are on the right track.
