Transfer News: Manchester United ace Sergio Romero wanted by Boca Juniors
According to latest news from ESPN Argentina (h/t Sport Witness), Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero is a summer transfer target for South American giants Boca Juniors.
Romero has been with Manchester United since 2015, having signed by then-manager Louis van Gaal. An understudy to David de Gea throughout his time at Old Trafford, the Argentine was one of the best backup goalkeepers during the period.
However, the 34-year-old hasn’t played a single game since last season for Manchester United. Following the return of Dean Henderson after a successful loan spell at Sheffield United, he became the No. 2 at Old Trafford, pushing Romero down the pecking order.
Romero had been linked with an exit in the summer as well as the January transfer window. A move, however, did not materialise. But the veteran goalkeeper could be set to end his Manchester United ordeal at the end of the season.
Indeed, Romero’s contract with the 20-time English champions runs at in a couple of months’ time. And, it seems like one club from his homeland is lining up to sign him.
Boca Juniors could be in need of a goalkeeper in the summer as per journalist Augusto Cesar, with current first-choice Esteban Andrada linked with a move to Europe. And the club has narrowed in on Romero as a potential replacement.
So much so that Boca Juniors have already initiated talks over the potential arrival of the 34-year-old custodian.
