Transfer News: Manchester United could sign Nikola Milenkovic for a £30million in the summer
According to Italian news outlet Calciomercato (h/t The Express), Manchester United have begun talks for the transfer of Nikola Milenkovic.
The 23-year-old has impressed at Fiorentina and is among the best young defenders in the Italian top-flight. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to sign a new centre-back and the Serbian represents an affordable option.
While United have improved defensively in recent weeks, there is still a gap to be bridged if we are to keep pace with Manchester City. The backline has been our Achilles heel numerous times and we cannot afford to ignore it.
According to the report, United have initiated talks with Milenkovic’s agent, Fali Ramadani.
Of all the defenders at the club, only skipper Harry Maguire is an automatic selection. The rest still divide opinion and have proven themselves to be inconsistent.
Fiorentina is willing to let go of their 23-year-old talent for £30million. This pales in comparison to the valuation of Jules Kounde and Ben White.
Meeting La Viola’s asking price will make Milenkovic the third most expensive defender in United history.
The 23-year-old recently admitted that United legend Nemanja Matic was his hero growing up. The former Red Devil was one of the finest defenders of his age and Milenkovic will hopefully take inspiration to achieve the same levels.
