According to Italian outlet CalcioMercato, Manchester United are figuring out the finances involved in landing Nikola Milenkovic in the summer.

The Serbian is one of the best young defenders in Serie A. With his contract at Fiorentina set to run out in 2022, La Viola could be forced into making a decision this summer.

The Red Devils are one of the teams in the fray to land him and appear to be ramping up efforts to secure his signature.

According to the report, United have been in contact to ‘find information’ about the signing. However, it is not clear whether that contact is with Fiorentina or the player’s representatives.

The Red Devils believe he is the ideal foil for skipper Harry Maguire in defence. They appear to be ready to make a move and meet Fiorentina’s release clause for the player.

At a modest €30million, Milenkovic represents value for money. Where the amount stands in a post-Covid-19 landscape remains to be seen.

The Red Devils will face competition for the player though. AC Milan, Inter Milan, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are all interested in the 23-year-old.

At 1.95m, Milenkovic is a towering presence at the back. The versatility to also play at right-back further adds to his appeal. The Serbian is also a cheaper alternative to Sevilla ace Jules Kounde.
