Bruno Fernandes has not rejected a contract offer from Manchester United
Bruno Fernandes set off a few alarms among Manchester United fans when it was reported that he rejected an improved contract from the club.
The 26-year-old is the club’s best player and has set the league alight since joining the club over a year ago. The fact that we appear to struggle in his absence is abundant proof of the difference he makes on the field in red.
While he still has a number of years to go in his current deal, the news that he rejected an extension was not a promising update.
According to CalcioMercato, United are yet to offer Fernandes fresh terms and any news of him rejecting one is fictional. However, that does not mean the club isn’t looking to tie down their prized player.
The Red Devils could be set to open negotiations in the summer or whenever the club reach their targets for the season. With the season drawing to a close, that day might not be too far away.
Fernandes continues to enjoy life at United and has an excellent relationship with the club. The midfielder rakes in an impressive €11m per season at Old Trafford, an amount potential suitors could struggle to match in the current financial landscape.
No need to make haste
As things stand, there is little reason to worry about Fernandes’ future at the club. The player has been sensational on the field and has often avoided controversy off it.
While the jury may still be out on the truth behind the contract rumours, we will have little reason to worry if we win a trophy or two this season.
United take on AC Milan in the second leg of the Europa League last-16 tie on 18th March.
