Solskjaer hopeful that Marcus Rashford will return for Manchester United this weekend

According to the club’s official site, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hopeful that Marcus Rashford will return for Manchester United this Sunday against West Ham United.

The 23-year-old has not featured for United since coming off with a muscle injury in our 2-0 win over Manchester City last Sunday. He was not in the squad that took on AC Milan on Thursday night.

With Edinson Cavani also injured and now Anthony Martial facing an issue with his hip, the Red Devils are short of senior strikers going into the next weekend.

Solskjaer, however, remains hopeful that Rashford could return to the squad against the Hammers. While it is far from a sure thing, the team could really do with the 23-year-old.

“I definitely hope Marcus is back for next Thursday in Milan. I’m not sure he’ll make Sunday but, fingers crossed, as we’ll need him.”

While Rashford is in with a shout, Cavani will definitely not be ready in time to face David Moyes side. Martial, meanwhile, is set to have a scan on his hip.

Time for Greenwood to shine?

Rashford’s goal tally this season has only been bettered by Bruno Fernandes. The 23-year-old’s absence is noticeable in a United attack that has at times gone stale.

Mason Greenwood is now the seniormost fit striker at United. Whether Solskajer will play it safe and make use of the youngster over a recovering Rashford remains to be seen.

Solskjaer is right in saying that United could do with Rashford this weekend. However, he will do well to tread lightly given Rashford’s recent injury struggles.

At 23, he has his best years ahead of him and it will do little to risk him for a game of not too much consequence.
