Diogo Dalot opens up after making Manchester United return with AC Milan
Manchester United outcast Diogo Dalot would not have expected to turn out at Old Trafford this season, especially after he was sent on a season-long loan to AC Milan last summer.
However, United’s misfortune in the UEFA Champions League combined with the luck of the draw has pinned the on-loan star up against his parent side in the round of 16.
Dalot started the game at left-back on Thursday and lasted the whole 90 minutes as the Italians left with a well earned 1-1 draw. The 21-year-old put in an impressive shift on the night.
Speaking to BT Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News), Dalot admitted that it felt strange to turn up at Old Trafford in a Milan jersey.
“It was a mixed feeling to be honest when I first walked on the pitch before the game. I’m used to being this side of the pitch and now I’m on the other side.”
The 21-year-old admitted that he missed United and had great memories of being at the club. However, all that was put to a side on the night as he put up a solid performance.
“I missed this place as well, I had great memories with this club but today I was on the other side fighting for this badge, and that’s it.”
Dalot’s performance also earned him rave praise from United legend Paul Scholes. The Ginger Prince went on to suggest that the Red Devils have the ideal comeptitor for Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the Portuguese defender. (h/t MEN)
United are keen to bring in a new right-back to compete with Wan-Bissaka in the summer. Whether Dalot has now played himself into contention remains to be seen.

Simon Kjaer’s injury-time strike gives Milan the advantage on away goals going into the next leg on March 18. The match, interestingly, takes place on Dalot’s birthday. Whether this inspires him to put in another stellar performance remains to be seen.
