Manchester United among PL trio to make a bid for Barcelona wonderkid Ilaix Moriba
According to Spanish publication Sport (h/t Sport Witness), Manchester United have made an ‘important offer’ to Barcelona wonderkid Ilaix Moriba.
The 18-year-old is a product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy and has been with the club for 11 years now. One of the best talents to have emerged from there in recent times, the midfielder is held in high regard.
Moriba has already been given some first-team minutes in the Copa Del Rey and La Liga this season. He caught the eye once again by scoring against Osasuna at the weekend.
The youngster’s contract at Barcelona expires in 2022. The Catalans however remain confident that the player will pen fresh terms and continue his development at the club.
But this has not stopped the likes of United from keeping tabs on the player’s progress. The Red Devils will however have to contend with interest from Manchester City and Chelsea.
Moriba reportedly has a mammoth €100m release clause in his contract. Signing him would see United have to make a sizeable financial contribution.
A youth revolution
The Red Devils have in recent months brought in a number of youngsters from across the world. The likes of Amad Traore haven’t just been brought in for big money but has also made his first-team bow within months of his arrival.
With Shola Shoretire also being given minutes, it is clear that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will play youngsters, provided they impress. Moriba may be tempted to stay on at Barcelona, thanks to Ronald Koeman’s reliance on youngsters.
If he plays his cards right, there is no reason why he cannot experience the same at Old Trafford.
