Solskjaer could be forced to name an unchanged Manchester United squad vs City
According to the club’s official site, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may be forced to name an unchanged squad to take on Manchester City this weekend.
The Red Devils travelled to London midweek to face Crystal Palace. In a game shorn of imagination or intent, United failed to find a way past the Eagles.
With them now 14 points behind City in the title race, the game on Sunday is a must-win. But Solskjaer will have to do it without a number of his first-team stars.
Speaking to the press, the Norwegian has refused to rule out a few players who could yet pass a late fitness test.
“We’re still hoping to get one or two back of course.”
The likes of Donny van de Beek, Anthony Martial and David de Gea all missed the trip to Selhurst Park at the weekend. With the likes of Paul Pogba already sidelined, Solskjaer will not have his best XI to choose from.
“We can’t promise any of them being available that weren’t available in the last game against Palace.”
De Gea is sure to miss the game, giving Dean Henderson yet another opportunity to stake his claim as the club’s future first-choice goalkeeper. With Pogba also not close to a return, one could assume Solskjaer was referring to Martial and Van de Beek declaring themselves fit.
With still a day to go, it could very well happen. But Solskjaer is not getting his hopes up and might need to travel with the same squad once again.
“We’ll go with the same squad if not.”
