Boca Juniors keen on Manchester United star Edinson Cavani

According to Argentine newspaper Ole (h/t Sportwitness), Boca Juniors are keeping tabs on Manchester United star Edinson Cavani heading into the summer transfer window.

The 34-year-old signed for United last summer on a Bosman deal. He has since proven to be an inspired aquisition, scoring a number of key goals.

Cavani signed with the Red Devils initially on a one-year deal. The club, however, does retain the option to extend his stay by another year. Given his performances, it will be a surprise if we choose to pass on it.

An open secret?

Talk of interest from the Azul y Oro is not new with the local press in Argentia speculating about the same since early this month. It is said that Boca vice-president Juan Roman Riquelme has already talked to Cavani about playing for the club in 2022.

Cavani had admitted last year that he and Riquelme shared a secret. He, however, did not elucidate on the details. More so, the player had admitted in the past his desire to don the famous Blue and Gold jersey.

According to the report, the secret is nothing but a promise on Cavani’s behalf to join Boca once he is ready to return to South America. The Uruguayan has not represented a South American team since leaving the continent in 2007 for Serie A side Palermo.

Manchester is no Paris!

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen for the striker to extend his stay at Old Trafford. However, such a decision will also need Cavani’s assent. If the report is to be believed, the player is not completely happy with life in Manchester.

That is to be expected, especially after living seven years living in Paris. A move to Boca will give Cavani a chance to win the Copa Libertadores, a trophy all South American players aspire to win. Moreover, the transfer will also bring him closer to home.

One aspect that could work in United’s favour is Cavani’s children from his first marriage. They currently stay in Napoli and his potential move to Argentina will put the Atlantic Ocean between them.

More Manchester United News

Cavani is the second United player Boca have had en eye on in recent months. Marcos Rojo left United for Boca only last month. The 30-year-old is also said to be using his relationship with Cavani to lure him to the Estadio Alberto J Armando.

Coming from an Argentine newspaper, the presence of bias is clearly visible. While Cavani could make the move to Boca in the future, we expect him to don red for another season.
