Fabrizio Romano’s latest tweet suggests a transfer blow for Manchester United

Leicester City among the clubs keen on Manchester United target Boubakary Soumare

Reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has offered a fresh update on Twitter regarding the future of Manchester United target Boubakary Soumare.

The Red Devils were said to be leading the race to land the 21-year-old LOSC Lille midfielder just last month. A product of the PSG youth setup, he has gone on to showcase his potential at the Stade Pierre Mauroy.

An ever-present in the Lille midfield, Soumare has made 29 appearances across all competitions this season, making a solitary assist. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Certainly a player with high potential, he has been attracting interest from a number of clubs. Soumare’s contract expires in the summer of 2022, leaving Lille at a disadvantage when it comes to negotiations.

While Romano has not explicitly named any of the other clubs in the fray, Chelsea and Liverpool have been linked with the player in the past. (h/t The Metro)

Leicester are set to begin talks and could potentially steal a march in the race for the player. The Foxes have a very promising midfield unit and Soumare would make an excellent addition.

Whether Leicester’s interest in Soumare affects the future of Youri Tielemans or Wilfred Ndidi remains to be seen. Both players were linked with a move to Old Trafford in the past.

It will be itneresting to see if a potential move for Soumare opens up any opportunities for us to sign the Foxes duo.

Paul Pogba faces an uncertain future at the club while Nemanja Matic isn’t getting any younger. We will need to replace the duo sooner rather than later and Soumare is a promising option.

Whether we will indeed go on to land him remains to be seen.
