La Liga ace leads Man United’s list of targets to replace outgoing superstar

Federico Valverde on Manchester United shortlist of Paul Pogba replacements

According to The Sun, Manchester United have earmarked Federico Valverde to replace the outgoing Paul Pogba in the summer.

The Real Madrid star has caught the fancy of Red Devils scouts, who have ramped up their efforts this season. The 22-year-old is capable of playing a dual role in central midfield and has been in good form this season.

Injuries have limited him to just 20 appearances in all competitions this season. During that time, he has scored three goals and assisted one more. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Pogba, who is also out injured at the moment, could be in the final few months of his United second coming. The Frenchman’s agent Mino Raiola admitted last December that the player will seek a move away in the summer.

With his contract expiring in 2022, the upcoming summer represents the best and the last opportunity for us to demand top dollar. Juventus are amongst the clubs keen on Pogba but have been put off by United’s £100m asking price.

An elegant solution?

Pogba has also been linked to Real Madrid in the past with manager Zinedine Zidane a known admirer. According to the report, it does open up the prospect of a potential Pogba-Valverde swap.

The Uruguayan star has a £148m release clause and a swap could work out well for both sides.

At just 22, Valverde has excellent potential

In Valverde, United will be getting a like-to-like replacement, only younger. The 22-year-old is known for his excellent stamina and powerful box-to-box running along with his passing game.

In Valverde, United could potentially be getting a player who can run the midfield for the better part of a decade. A mobile midfielder, he will add another dimension to our midfield.
