Manchester United keeping tabs on Federico Valverde
According to The Sun, Manchester United are keeping tabs on Real Madrid star Federico Valverde.
The 22-year-old has broken into the Los Blancos first-team and is steadily establishing himself as a key cog in the Spanish giants’ squad.
Valverde has long been tipped to make the top level and he finally appears to be doing just that. This has attracted the attention of United, who are now keen on the midfielder.
The Red Devils could make use of French midfielder Paul Pogba in order to work out a deal for the 22-year-old. The World Cup winning midfielder too opened up on the possibility of playing for the La Liga champions one day.
According to the report, United could be willing to swap the Frenchman to sign Valverde. The Uruguayan meanwhile has a massive £640million buy-out clause. The huge price set on his head is a testament to what Real think of him.
Valverde came through the ranks at Estudiantes de La Union and Penarol back in his homeland. He eventually moved to Madrid in 2016 and spent his first season in the Castilla squad.
Despite his young age, the midfielder has already notched up 74 appearances for Real. He has so far scored three goals and five assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Pogba, for all his hype, has failed to replicate his best on a consistent basis at Old Trafford. Swapping him for another midfielder entering the prime of his career would make sense for United.
The Red Devils recently activated a clause in Pogba’s contract that extended his stint at United until 2022. This should help preserve his value.
