Rio Ferdinand urges Manchester United loanee, Jesse Lingard, to leave the club for good
According to the Metro, Rio Ferdinand has urged Jesse Lingard to call time on his career as a Manchester United player
The 28-year-old made just three appearances for United this season and has fallen out of favour with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He eventually joined West Ham United on loan last month and has since thrived under David Moyes.
Lingard scored twice on his Hammers’ debut and also played well in their 3-0 win over Sheffield United at the weekend.
Ferdinand believes Lingard should treat this loan spell as an audition ahead of a permanent summer switch away from Old Trafford. Given how Solskjaer has treated him, it is fair to assume that he has no significant role waiting for him back in Manchester.
“That’s got to be his aim… to get a bid from West Ham and other clubs to take him out of Man United.”
A regular under both Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho, Lingard has struggled to impress Solskjaer. Ferdinand believes United have moved on and have consigned the 28-year-old to a peripheral role.
“I think they’ve moved past him with the players they’ve recruited, he doesn’t feature, hasn’t done for so long.”
Fall from grace!
Lingard is at best an insignificant member of the United squad. At 28, he has his best years ahead of him and could be an excellent player elsewhere.
He recently admitted that Solskjaer did not give him enough opportunities at United post lockdown. It
is difficult to see the Norwegian change his tune once Lingard returns to Old Trafford.A new chapter beckons for the 28-year-old and it is upto him as to what he makes of it.

Lingard’s performances at West Ham have also gained him appreciation from United legend, Sir Alex Ferguson. Having come through the club’s ranks, the Scot would have been aware of the player’s development while manager.
While it may not have been smooth sailing at United, Lingard is off to a good start at West Ham.
