Cristiano Ronaldo tipped for Man United return in the future

Cristiano Ronaldo made an emotional return to Manchester United in 2021 but what was supposed to be a fairytale ending to his career to the Portuguese turned sour a year later. The two parties terminated their contract with mutual consent due to the forward’s public spat with Erik ten Hag, subsequent to which, he joined Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr.

In spite of the bitter ending to his second tenure at Old Trafford, Ronaldo has continued to maintain that he loves the club where he won his first Ballon d’Or. His ex-teammate and former Manchester United defender Wes Brown believes a return to the club for a third time could be a welcome step for the club as well as the player.

The Englishman said the following when speaking about the subject to Boyle Sports (via GOAL):

“When it comes to Cristiano Ronaldo returning to Manchester United in some capacity you can never say never. Obviously when he left the second time we were all disappointed because he had been one of United’s best ever players, it was disappointing how it ended and I think he could return to try and make amends for the sour ending. Even in his first season back at the club he scored over 20 goals. I think the exit was a bit over the top but for him to come back in some way. I’d love it.”

Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United in a playing capacity can be comfortably ruled as he will turn 40 years old in less than six months and seems to be happy at Al-Nassr, where his next objective is to reach 1000 career goals. Moreover, there is also no clarity as to how much football the former Real Madrid ace has under his belt.

Cristiano Ronaldo is enjoying a successful spell at Al-Nassr since departing Manchester United.

While Ronaldo’s experience in some capacity at Manchester United would hold them in good stead, it remains to be seen if indeed the Euro 2016 winner is inclined towards pursuing such a challenge having already hinted at what might lie in front of him on his YouTube channel when speaking to Rio Ferdinand (h/t Mirror).

CR7 seems more inclined towards growing his business ventures under his own brand name, which include branches such as a shirt chain, an undergarment brand, a series of hotels, as well as a perfume company. He has also invested significant sums in external businesses including Whoop, a fitness accessories manufacturer from the United States.

United’s ownership has also repeatedly shied away from having former players aboard, so it is also unclear whether Wes Brown’s wish of seeing Cristiano Ronaldo back at Old Trafford will be something that the club considers. Only time will tell what happens of United’s and Ronaldo’s association going forward, but the door seems shut for the moment.
