Ole Gunnar Solskjaer yet to hold talks regarding Manchester United contract extension
According to VG (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is yet to hold talks with the club’s hierarchy over a contract extension.
The Norwegian’s deal at Old Trafford runs out in the summer of 2022. He took over from Jose Mourinho midway through the 2018/19 campaign. Originally an interim manager, his initial success saw him pen a three-year deal in 2019.
He has managed United in 127 games and has largely stabilized an unsettled squad that he took over. There has been some limited success but he is yet to win any silverware.
Solskjaer admits he is not thinking of it at the moment and is focused on the job at hand. To be fair, there will be plenty of time in the off-season to iron out the issue.
“I have not thought about that, and we have not discussed it at all. I am just focusing on doing my job and part of the job is to stabilise things.”
Despite recent setbacks, Solskjaer is optimisitc that the club is on the right track. With a potential title challenge and the FA Cup and Eruopa League still to play for, he could be proven right come the end of the season.
“We feel like we are on our way towards what we sat down and discussed, what we planned.”
Prerequisites for an extension!
It was reported earlier by The Sun that United are playing a game of waiting and watching before making a decision on Solskjaer’s future.
Solskjaer’s sides have been largely inconsistent and are capable of both the sublime and the ridiculous. This has seen questions raised against the United boss’ ability to take the club to the next level.
Finishing second in the league while also winning a cup could turn the tide in the Norwegian’s favour. For now, it would appear that the jury is still out.

Solskjaer has admittedly done a good job in stabilizing the United squad. However, he has not shown the mettle needed to go all the way and win silverware. Time is, however, running out and United are still yet to add any trophies under his management.
