Manchester United yet to make a decision on Edinson Cavani

According to Daily Star, Manchester United are yet to make a decision on extending the contract of Uruguayan ace Edinson Cavani.

The veteran striker joined the club on a free last summer. He has proven to be an inspired acquisition and has proven his worth to the United squad.

The 33-year-old has made 23 appearances for United this season. During that time, he managed to net seven goals and two assists. (h/t BBC)

Cavani’s strike rate is exceeded only by Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford at United this season. Despite his age, he proves to be a trump card who has more often than not successfully delivered the goods.

The striker’s one-year contract at Old Trafford will expire at the end of the current campaign. The Red Devils do have the option to extend it by another year. As yet, that decision is still to be made.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also keen for Cavani to stay put for another season. A proven winner, the 33-year-old’s experience has proven invaluable. Cavani turns 34 this Sunday. United take on Sam Allardyce’s West Bromwich Albion that night.

The Uruguayan will hopefully get his name on the scoresheet against the Baggies. It will not just mark off his special day but also strengthen his claim for an extension.

Given his performances so far, Cavani has earned himself the right to demand an extended stay at the Theatre of Dreams. It would be foolish on United’s side to let go of a player who has stepped up when needed.

Hopefully, it is just a matter of time before he is offered the contract extension that he richly deserves.
