Manchester United announce Europa League squad with two surprise names
A report by Sky Sports mentions that Manchester United have announced their 24-man Europa League squad for the knockout stages.
Europe’s second-biggest club competition returns to action in two weeks time. The Red Devils have a round of 32 date with La Liga side Real Sociedad.
The first leg is on February 18, with the second leg coming a week later. United’s squad includes new signing Amad Diallo.
He joined United from Atalanta in the January transfer window. The 18-year-old, who was signed for a projected £37.2million fee, is yet to feature for the senior team.
But he did score a brace in United U-23’s 6-3 win against Liverpool U-23 last weekend. Another surprise name in the squad is Phil Jones, who hasn’t featured for the club in over a year.
No Romero amidst transfer links
He suffered a knee injury last year, which put him out for the start of the new Premier League season. As for exclusions, Sergio Romero is not in the Europa League squad.
He was a key member of Jose Mourinho’s United squad that went all the way in the Europa League in 2017.
The 33-year-old is linked with a move away from Old Trafford and could move to an MLS team once the American transfer window opens. (h/t Manchester Evening News)
Mason Greenwood and Brandon Williams are also not in the 24-man squad. However, they can still feature in the competition for the club as they are homegrown players and eligible for UEFA’s B-list. (h/t Sky Sports)
