Jamie O’Hara urges Manchester United to sign Diego Costa
Speaking on TalkSport (h/t Express), Jamie O’Hara has urged Manchester United to sign former Atletico Madrid ace Diego Costa.
The Spaniard was released by the La Liga leaders and is now a free agent. At 32, he has the potential to be a stop-gap solution up front.
“Why don’t they sign Diego Costa?”
United have already made use of the free-agent market to great effect this season. The club landed Edinson Cavani on summer deadline day and the Uruguayan has impressed.
O’Hara believes United lack a proper backup for Cavani and does not appear to have faith in Anthony Martial. Soon to be 34, it will be unrealistic to expect Cavani to start every game. Hence, bringing in another striker will give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer more options.
“Martial, for me, just isn’t a No 9.”
The Frenchman enjoyed his best season at United last time around. He has failed to replicate it this campaign and has scored just two Premier League goals all season.
“He’s not clinical enough, he doesn’t bring other players into the game, and he just looks miserable when he plays football.”
Costa is a player who has experience of playing in the English top-flight. The 32-year-old spent three seasons at Chelsea, scoring 58 goals and 24 assists in just 120 games. (h/t Transfermarkt)
On paper, Costa appears to be a decent choice who could do the job for us for a while. However, injuries have seen him drop off his dominant self in recent months. He is not the player he once was and United will do well to stay clear.

There is however truth in the statement that Martial has not done enough this season. The Frenchman has plenty of potential but his inconsistency continues to frustrate.
Hopefully, he can pick up his performance in the second half of the season and end it on a high.
