Boost for Manchester United as Sergio Aguero and Kevin de Bruyne are set for a spell on the sidelines for City

Manchester United and Manchester City are involved in a title race that could be settled by the smallest of margins.

According to The Times (Subscription Required), Pep Guardiola’s side will have to do without stalwarts Sergio Aguero and Kevin de Bruyne in the coming weeks. The Argentine has been diagnosed with Covid-19 while the Belgian ace has injured his hamstring.

Both players have proven invaluable to City in the recent past and are difference makers on their day. Their absence could hand us the advantage in what has so far been a very even race.

While City are yet to announce the exact time frame of De Bruyne’s absence, he is expected to miss the next two to four games. This also includes the mammoth game against defending champions Liverpool at the Etihad.

The reigning PFA Player of the Year, De Bruyne is the master orchestrator of the City midfield. With him gone, the likes of Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva will need to step up.

Despite having an expensively assembled team full of superstars, the loss of his two key players should hurt Guardiola.

Sergio Aguero has tested positive for COVID

Aguero has, for years, been City’s go-to player for important goals. The Argentine ace is a bonafide legend who has seen City over the line numerous times.

Having such a player unavailable will be a blow to any side. While Gabriel Jesus is a good striker, he fails to make the same impact as Aguero, and can go missing when needed.

While we wish them a speedy recovery, we also hope City go on to drop points in their absence.

United too have had individual players step up and take charge when needed this season. The likes of Bruno Fernande and more recently Paul Pogba have both stepped up and scored key goals.

Hopefully, the stars are aligning as we look to end an eight-year wait for the elusive 21st league title.
