Nathan Bishop signs new Manchester United contract before heading out on loan

A report by the official Manchester United club website reveals that academy goalkeeper Nathan Bishop has signed a new deal with the club and is on the verge of leaving the club on a loan deal.

Manchester United signed Bishop from Southend United a year ago. The 21-year-old is quite low in the pecking order for United’s U-23 squad.

He has played just one game since his transfer to Old Trafford. That came in a 6-0 win against Salford in the EFL Trophy.

The former England U-20 international had a less than impressive record before joining United. He kept just 4 clean sheets in his 39 games for the club, letting in 83 goals in that time. (h/t Transfermarkt)

However, the team must have seen something in him to hand him a new deal despite the Englishman being behind Paul Woolston and Ondrej Mastny in the goalkeeper pecking order.

In addition to the new contract, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed on Monday that the goalkeeper would be heading out to get more playing time. (h/t Manchester United website)

Going places

Bishop spoke to the club media after penning his new deal. He explained the strides he has made at the club and revealed his thoughts on a loan move.

“You learn your trade in playing games. That’s the most exciting thing, playing games and preparing for them. I’m very excited to step out…”

Bishop mentioned that the new contract shows the faith the club have in him. Adding to that, he says that training with players such as Dean Henderson, David de Gea, and Sergio Romero has helped him a lot.

“Definitely development-wise I’ve made a lot of steps forward I think.”

The club that Bishop joins on loan remains to be seen but let us hope that he can go to a team where he can play more without the pressure of representing a club like Manchester United.
