Manchester United could hand Edinson Cavani a contract extension until 2022
According to Sky Sports, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted at Edinson Cavani being given a contract extension.
The 33-year–old joined the club on summer deadline day on a one-year deal. He has so far impressed and has been a gamechanger off the bench.
Despite his age, Solskjaer believes there is still much to come from the Uruguayan international. He also hinted that the striker could play more of a starting role in the games to come.
“We have good competition for places but he’ll probably start more games than he won’t.”
Cavani’s deal expires at the end of the season. United do have the option of extending it by another year. Solskjaer believes the striker can make an impact even beyond that.
“At the moment it looks like he has got a few years left in him – even at the age he is, he is still one of the fittest players we have got.”
Solskjaer clearly has a good impression of the South American veteran. He went on to add that Cavani is also one of the fittest members in the squad. The 33-year-old has made a profound impact on the team, both on and off the pitch.
Cavani came off the bench to assist Bruno Fernandes to score United’s second goal against Leicester City. Given the struggles of Anthony Martial, the Uruguyan’s signing has been an inspired one.
With United set to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday, it remains to be seen if Cavani will return to the starting XI.

Given Cavani’s impact so far, it is hard to argue that he does not deserve fresh terms. Hopefully, he will continue to go from strength to strength for the remainder of the season.
