Manchester United cool their interest in RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano
According to The Athletic, Manchester United have dropped out of the race to sign RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano.
The young Frenchman is a defensive colossus for the German giants despite his age. One of the finest players of his age group, he has gone from strength to strength this season.
The 22-year-old has garnered interest from a number of teams and has even made his France national team bow. It is a testament to his ability that he could break into the World champions’ squad.
United’s stance has emboldened Bayern Munich to make their move for the player.
While Die Roten are not particularly enthusiastic about signing the player, the prospect of losing David Alaba and Jerome Boateng in the summer could force their hand.
With his £38million release clause set to kick in at the end of the season, he would be worth every cent to the team who secures him. The 22-year-old is keen to sort his future quickly ahead of next summer’s Euros.
A domestic alternative!
United’s centre-back partnership of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have lacked solidity raising questions about their effectiveness. United meanwhile are still in the market for a defender.
With Upamecano off the table, United will turn their attention to Brighton and Hove star Ben White. The 23-year-old has formed an excellent partnership with Lewis Dunk on the South Coast.
It remains to be seen if we make a move for him in January.

It is baffling as to why we have dropped out of securing a move for Upamecano, especially given his more than reasonable release clause.
Whether this is a faux pas of if United have indeed shifted their attention elsewhere remains to be seen.
