Do or die! – Former Rival star believes Solskjaer could be a dead man walking if Man United lose the derby

Paul Merson believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could face the sack if he loses to Manchester City

Speaking to Sky Sports, Paul Merson has claimed that he believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be facing the sack if Manchester United lose the Manchester derby.

The Red Devils take on their City rivals smarting from the Champions League loss to RB Leipzig. With our Champions League hopes up in smoke, the players have an opportunity to make an immediate response.

“I would say that if he doesn’t get through this, that could be it. I think it’s make or break for Ole. That is, unless Man Utd have a different plan, and think differently about this club than everyone else.”

According to Merson, the United board behaves in a way that is unbecoming of the biggest brand in football. Despite being within touching distance of the top, United have often striuggled in matches this season. (h/t Sky Sports)

“I don’t get that feeling from the board that they believe they’re the biggest team in the world.”

Solskjaer, meanwhile, appears optimistic heading into the game. He believes United are title challengers.

While it is good to be optimistic, comments such as this will not do the Norwegian any good. That is unless he can back it up on the pitch.

The jury is still out on whether Solskajer is the right man for the job. It is also an undeniable fact the club only have themselves to blame for where they are right now.

Whether Solskjaer will be the man to bite the bullet if things go sideways remains to be seen.
