Manchester United ace Sergio Romero trains alone after disappointing summer
According to The Sun, Manchester United goalkeeper, Sergio Romero is training alone amidst hopes of leaving the club in January.
The Argentine veteran has been a dependable backup for David de Gea since being brought to the club by Louis van Gaal. However, the return of Dean Henderson has seen him fall down the pecking order.
The 33-year-old has returned to training. But his training alone is an indication of his current role in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans. (h/t The Sun)
The player has not featured for United since being snubbed for the Europa League semifinals last season. It would appear that he will never don the United jersey again.
Romero was also left out of United’s Premier League and Champions League squads. This further limits his opportunities and also shows his current standing at the club.
With the likes of Lee Grant also ahead of him, he is at best the fourth-choice keeper at the club.
A decision to make!
Romero is now staying fit on his own and is hoping that United will let him leave without a fee in January. The crux of the matter lies in whether Romero gets a payoff when he leaves. (h/t The Sun)
He was linked with a move to both Everton and Inter Miami in the summer. However, his £100,000-a-week wages have proven to be a stumbling block. (h/t The Sun)
According to the report, the player could be willing to give up his payoff worth £1.5million. He can also sign a pre-contract agreement in January for when his contract expires in the summer.
However, there is the risk of him having to spend the season our of action. With the Copa America set to be held next summer, it could end his hopes of making the Argentina squad.

Romero is amongst the best backup keepers in the league and possibly in Europe. He has let in only 27 goals in 61 games for United, keeping an incredible 37 clean sheets. (h/t Transfermarkt)
United players were unhappy with the way the club has treated Romero. For someone who has stepped up and delivered when needed, the club have not repaid the Argentine’s efforts when needed.
