Manchester United star Paul Pogba interested in joining Barcelona
According to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo (h/t MEN), Manchester United superstar Paul Pogba is open to joining Barcelona.
The World Cup-winning Frenchman has failed to set the field alight since joining United from Juventus in 2016. He continues to be linked with a move away from Old Trafford.
Pogba has enjoyed a difficult start to the season. United have won just one of their first three games, with the Frenchman conceding two penalties.
Pogba had earlier this month admitted that he dreams of playing for Real Madrid. Zinedine Zidane is also a fan of the player and tried to sign him last summer.
Los Blancos now face competition from arch-rivals Barcelona. The Catalans are rebuilding what is an ageing side following the 8-2 humiliation to Bayern Munich last season.
They have been unable to splash the cash owing to the coronavirus pandemic. Barcelona are now keen to take advantage of the free agent market.
Pogba is not the only player on Barcelona’s wishlist. Others include David Alaba, Sergio Aguero, Arkadiusz Milik, Angel Di Maria, Oriol Romeu, Juan Bernat and Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The 27-year-old is technically in the last year of his contract. United however have the option of extending his deal by another year.
It will be a surprise if United let the player leave on a free. With the prospect of penning an extension looking doubtful at this point in time, United could trigger the clause to help protect his value.
