Manchester United face setback in their efforts to land Luka Jovic
According to Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid have poured cold water on any intentions Manchester United had on signing Luka Jovic.
United were one of the clubs to whom the young striker was offered to by his agent.
However, with Borja Mayoral moving to Roma, Madrid have made the decision to keep Jovic at the club for the season.
The 22-year-old moved to the Santiago Bernabeu last summer after an impressive season with Eintracht Frankfurt. He has however failed to replicate the same form for Madrid and has struggled to impress.
He managed just two goals in 27 appearances in his debut season. This has seen him play as a backup to veteran ace Karim Benzema.
While Zinedine Zidane continues to put his faith in Benzema, club president Florentino Perez is aware that the 32-year-old is not getting any younger.
He is keen for Jovic to take on the mantle from the imperious Frenchman. Despite his difficulties last campaign, both Perez and Zidane appear to be willing to keep faith in the Serbian international.
According to Romano, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was keen on the player. However, it looks to be a lost cause now.
While it is true that the player’s services were offered to a number of clubs, there was a lack of concrete negotiations.
