Napoli reject Manchester City’s bid for Kalidou Kaoulibaly amidst United interest
According to Italian publication Corriere dello Sport (h/t The Sun), Napoli have rejected an offer from Manchester City for Manchester United target Kalidou Koulibaly.
The Senegalese defender is amongst the finest players in his position in the world. A colossus at the back, signing him would improve most defences in world football.
City’s bid of £53million was deemed too less by the Italians who are instead holding out for £71million.
Despite their deep pockets, Pep Guardiola’s side are not willing to up their initial offer. This is due to their incredible £623million deal to land Lionel Messi.
It will be music to United’s ears if they are not serious about trumping their local rivals to the Senegalese star’s signature. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to bring in a new partner for Harry Maguire. There are few in world football better than Koulibaly.
We will however face competition from Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain. The French giants are keen to replace Thiago Silva, who joined Chelsea last week.
United are also expected to part with a host of defenders. The likes of Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, and Chris Smalling could all leave, making reinforcement a necessity rather than a luxury. (h/t The Sun)
Koulibaly is not the only player on United’s radar. RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano and Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar have also been linked with a move to Old Trafford. (h/t Daily Star)

At 29, Koulibaly is not going to be a long-term option. Although his ability is not questioned, he is coming off a season plagued with injuries and a loss of form.
His performance against Barcelona in the Champions League showcased that he is not an all-conquering force. United will be better off spending big money on the likes of Upamecano. The Frenchman is a rising talent and looks bang on for the buck.
