Manchester United open talks with Juventus for Douglas Costa
According to Italian publication Calciomercato (h/t Wales Online), Manchester United have made contact with Serie A champions Juventus over the possibility of signing Douglas Costa this summer.
It is no secret that the club were keen on signing Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund to bolster the attack. However, with negotiations hitting a brick wall on that front, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now assessing alternatives. (h/t Wales Online)
And Costa has emerged as one of the options for United. The 29-year-old has been with Juventus since 2017, having signed from Bayern Munich, initially on loan, before completing a £36m move a year later.
However, Costa’s time in Turin has been plagued by injuries, due to which he hasn’t been a regular in the side. Costa ended the 2019/20 campaign with three goals and seven assists from 29 appearances in all competitions, although he started just 7 Serie A matches.

However, the Serie A giants are holding out for a mammoth £53m fee for the 29-year-old injury-prone star. The report, however, adds that Manchester United are looking to pay a significantly lesser sum for Costa. (h/t Wales Online)

Costa is a proven performer, but is entering his thirties. And, shelling out such amount of money on a player who has spent a large part of the last two seasons out on the treatment tables doesn’t make sense.
After a slow start to the window, it is imperative that the club ramp up transfer activity over the coming weeks in order to not be left behind by our rivals.
