Tahith Chong set for Werder Bremen loan spell
According to the club’s official site, Manchester United youngster Tahith Chong has joined Bundesliga side Werder Bremen on a season-long loan.
The Dutch youth international recently extended his United contract until 2022 with the option of a further year. Having joined from Feyenoord Rotterdam in 2018, Chong has so far made 16 appearances for the United first-team.
Primarily a right-winger, he is equally adept on the other flank. The youngster did his reputation no harm when he made a cameo as a left-back against LASK at Old Trafford earlier this month.
On the field for just 18 minutes and out of position, Chong put on a performance that would have humbled specialist left-backs.
The Dutchman has proven to be an inspired acquisition who has impressed for the youth and reserve sides. Chong won the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year Award in his first season at the club. He followed it up with the Denzil Haroun Reserve Player of the Year award in 2019.
With United looking to strengthen this summer, opportunities in the first-team will come at a premium. (h/t Daily Mail)
Next stage of development!
The move to the Bundesliga with Werder should give him the opportunity to receive regular playtime that can hone his development. According to the report, he is expected to gain valuable first-team experience at the German side.
Die Werderaner are currently in Zillerdeich, Austria for their pre-season training camp. Preparations are gathering pace ahead of the new Bundesliga season penciled to kick off on 18 September. Chong had been permitted to train alongside his new teammates earlier today.
Werder finished 16th in the Bundesliga last season. They only survived the relegation play-off against Heidenheim owing to the away goals rule.
