Man United contact £45m-rated La Liga star’s agents, claims journalist

Man United make contact with agents of Pau Torres

Speaking on Tier One Transfer Podcast (h/t Express), reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United have made contact with the agents of Villarreal star Pau Torres over a summer move.

The 23-year-old Torres enjoyed a spectacular 2019/20 campaign in La Liga, helping the Yellow Submarine to a fifth-place finish. The centre-back was easily one of the best in his position in the Spanish top flight in the season gone by.

This has seen the defender register himself on the radars of Manchester United. Our defence put on an admirable show in the second half of the campaign. But Eric Bailly’s injury record and Victor Lindelof’s shaky nature mean that we could use another solid centre-half for the coming years.

It has been claimed that manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is intent on bringing in a new defender who would compliment captain Harry Maguire. Torres, to that end, would be a great option for the club.

And Fabrizio Romano has claimed that United are in touch with the Spaniard’s representatives over the possibility of a transfer. (h/t Express)

“They are considering him, they obviously have a list on the transfer market so they take info, they speak with the agents so that’s the situation with Pau Torres.”

However, he did go on to add that the club are currently focusing on signing Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, and, as a result, have put the Torres deal on the backburner.

Torres has a contract with Villarreal till the summer of 2024. However, he does have release clause of £45m, which is quite reasonable.

Signing him would no doubt bolster our defence a great deal. So, hopefully, the club ramps up the efforts to sign him in the coming weeks.
