Boost for Manchester United in the pursuit of Donny van de Beek
According to Het Parool (h/t MEN), Manchester United have received a boost in their pursuit of Ajax Amsterdam midfielder Donny van de Beek.
This comes following the admission by Ajax manager Erik ten Hag that there is an agreement in place between the player and the club that he can leave this summer.
United are keen to add creativity to their midfield with Aston Villa skipper Jack Grealish the primary target.
Van de Beek is also on the list as confirmed by former United star and Edwin van der Sar. Valued at £40m, he will cost significantly lesser than Jack Grealish. (h/t Metro)
“Agreements have been made with Andre Onana, Donny van de Beek and Nicolas Tagliafico, but it remains to be seen whether the market is indeed breaking loose.”
Ten Hag has also added that another year at Ajax could remain an option for his star midfielder. It remains to be seen if that will be the case.
Van de Beek had scored 10 goals and 11 assists this season prior to football being suspended. The season has now been declared null and void, making his efforts pointless.
Van de Beek came through the youth ranks at Ajax. He has gone on to make 175 appearances for the club, bagging 41 goals and 34 assists.
The Dutchman caught the club’s eye in Ajax’s run to the UEFA Champions League semifinals in 2018. He scored key goals against both Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur, leading his side to within seconds of qualifying for the final.
