Manchester United and Arsenal to clash heads in Luka Jovic race
According to Italian publication Fantacalcio (h/t Express), Manchester United are showing strong interest in securing the signing of Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic. The Serbian is also a target for Arsenal.
Jovic, 22, is a product of the Red Star Belgrade academy. The 22-year-old burst onto the scenes last season while at German club Eintracht Frankfurt. The striker enjoyed a prolific campaign, bagging 27 goals in 48 games across all competitions.
This earned Jovic a £55m transfer to Real Madrid last summer. However, the Serbian’s time at the club hasn’t been all too good. Till date, the 22-year-old has managed just two goals and assists each in 24 appearances across all competitions for the Spanish giants.
In spite of this, his stock hasn’t fallen as Arsenal are interested in signing the Serbian international, along with Serie A giants AC Milan. In fact, the latter have reportedly offered a two-year loan deal with an obligation to buy for £30m. (h/t Express)
And now, Manchester United, too, have joined the race for the 22-year-old, according to the aforementioned report.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has four options at his disposal for the centre-forward role currently with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood and Odion Ighalo.
However, Rashford has largely been used on the left flank, while Ighalo is at the club for just six more months. So, bringing in a young striker to add to the contingent wouldn’t be the worst idea. As long as Greenwood’s development isn’t hampered.

However, Jovic might not be the most ideal option. As mentioned previously, he has struggled for form having made a big move to Madrid. And he might face similar problems at Old Trafford.
