Manchester United target Wissam Ben Yedder to stay at Monaco

According to RMC Sport (h/t Metro), Manchester United have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Ligue 1 ace Wissam Ben Yedder.

The Monaco star has been in sensational form this season. He has scored 19 goals and 9 assists in 31 appearances before the season was brought to a premature end. (h/t Transfermarkt)

In his first season back in his homeland, Ben Yedder finished as the joint-top scorer in Ligue 1 alongside PSG’s Kylian Mbappe on 18 goals. (h/t Metro)

His prolific return has attracted the attention of a trio of Premier League giants. Apart from us, Liverpool and Arsenal were also keeping tabs on the 29-year-old. (h/t Metro)

But now, Monaco vice-president Oleg Petrov has poured cold water on any transfer. He has stated that there is ‘no question’ of the prolific Frenchman being sold this summer. (h/t Metro)

“We expect him to stay in Monaco. There is no question of him leaving the club.

The stance comes despite Monaco finishing in ninth spot in the league. This will see them miss out on European football next season.

Given the financial implications of the coronavirus, the lack of European football is a disaster. However, Monaco are keen to hold onto their star striker. (h/t Metro)

It is understandable once you consider the effect he has had. Ben Yedder has scored more goals for Monaco than the next three top scorers combined. Taking him away will blunt the Ligue 1 side’s attack. (h/t ESPN)

An excellent striker who has a niche for scoring goals, he could have been an excellent addition to our squad. We will instead have to look elsewhere.

United fans will be familiar after Ben Yedder’s abilities. He came off the bench and scored twice in 18 minutes to throw us out of the Champions League in 2018.
