Paul Pogba set to stay at Manchester United, claims Peter Schmeichel
Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has revealed to the Express that Paul Pogba will commit his future at Old Trafford.
The 27-year-old has endured a difficult season with the Red Devils. Not only has he struggled with injury but also been linked with a move away. (h/t Express)
In spite of garnering attention from the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus, the Frenchman has been convinced by the right people to stay put, claims Schmeichel. (h/t Express)
“I’m absolutely convinced he wants to stay.”
This marks a remarkable u-turn from his tone just a year ago. Pogba had admitted just last summer that he was keen on a new challenge elsewhere. (h/t Express)
It followed months of uncertainty where even his agent Mino Raiola chipped in with unhelpful comments.
With an aura of unity and good feeling back at the club, the Frenchman committing his future will only improve the morale.
Schmeichel believes this will also see an upturn in Pogba’s form. The Frenchman has shown what he is capable of a number of times. However, his inability to replicate it on a consistent basis has been a source of frustration. (h/t Express)
He goes on to add that the media portrayal of Pogba and his agent have not helped the player’s reputation. (h/t Express)
Schmeichel has also backed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to get the best out of Pogba. The Norwegian has laid down the gauntlet for Pogba ahead of the clash against Tottenham Hotspur. (h/t Express)
“I think when Ole came, we straight away saw with Ole’s guidance and his knowledge with Paul, we saw precisely what he can give us. And that’s a lot.”
