Daniel Kelly signs Celtic extension amidst Manchester United interest
According to the Scottish Herald, Manchester United have suffered a blow in their chase for gifted Scottish star Daniel Kelly.
The 15-year-old has signed a pre-professional contract for four years with Celtic that should reassure them on his immediate future. A talented player, he has also garnered interest from Leicester City, Benfica, and Liverpool.
The Scottish giants were worried about losing out on yet another talented youngster. Having already lost a promising star in Liam Morrison to Bayern Munich, history appears to be repeating with Barry Hepburn.
Kelly is currently a student in the St. Ninian’s High School program. It has helped produce the likes of Kieran Tierney, Mikey Johnston, and Anthony Ralston among others at Parkhead
The youngster has starred for the Celtic youth sides right from the Under-15 to the Under-18 level. His talents were on show in the prestigious Sheffield Trophy. He was a part of a young Celts outfit that finished runners-up to MLS side Seattle Sounders.
The Red Devils are focussed on signing promising young players. Hannibal Mejbri and Dillon Hoogewerf were procured last season while Radek Vitek, Joe Hugill, and Marc Jurado will arrive this summer.
United also have a number of youngsters coming through their system such as Mason Greenwood and Brandon Williams.
With clubs being impacted financially due to the coronavirus pandemic, securing channels to set up one’s own youth system has become important.
