Manchetser United look to trump Barcelona for Lautaro Martinez

Manchester United look to hijack Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan

According to Foot Mercato (h/t MEN), Manchester United are looking to hijack Barcelona’s move for Lautaro Martinez in the upcoming transfer window.

The Inter Milan star is one of the best young strikers in Italy. He has combined well with Romelu Lukaku and ensured that the Italians haven’t missed unsettled superstar Mauro Icardi.

The Argentine has been in excellent form this season. He has scored 16 goals and provided four assists from 29 appearances for the Nerazzurri so far.

Lautaro Martinez would be a coup for United

His performances had grabbed the attention of Barcelona. The move would have seen him reunite with international compatriot Lionel Messi at the Nou Camp. With Luis Suarez now 33, the Catalans are keen to phase him out and bring in a replacement.

However, Barcelona will first need to sell at least one player in order to raise funds for Martinez. This could be the opening United needed to make their move.

The 22-year-old is not the only striker on United’s wishlist. The Red Devils are also interested in Moussa Dembele and Timo Werner. The club is, however, yet to establish contact with either of them.

Martinez is not the only striker in United’s sights

Although Werner is the top dog among the three, Martinez’s potential and ability make him a strong choice. He has improved leaps and bounds at the San Siro and at 22, he has his best years ahead of him.

Beating Barcelona to his signature would be nothing short of a coup for the Old Trafford outfit.

If United sign the player in the summer, he will be the club’s second marquee signing in as many windows following the capture of Bruno Fernandes in January.
