Manchester United to battle Chelsea, Tottenham for Thomas Meunier
Manchester United have made enquiries over the possibility of signing PSG star Thomas Meunier this summer. The Belgian international is also a target for Premier League rivals Chelsea and Tottenham. (L’Equipe h/t Daily Mail)
Meunier has been with PSG since the summer of 2016. However, the 28-year-old has never quite been able to establish himself as the undisputed starter at right-back in Paris.
The Belgian international has made 128 appearances for the French champions during his time at the club. He has scored 13 goals and created 21 more till date.
And, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, Meunier is a man in demand, with a number of clubs, including Manchester United, intent on his signing. (h/t Daily Mail)
This comes as confusing news considering that we have Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who is one of the best right-backs in England. And, in Diogo Dalot the club has a young and able backup.
Moreover, Ethan Laird is coming through the youth ranks and impressed on his senior debut earlier this season.
So Meunier, at this time, doesn’t seem like a necessary addition to the squad. Signing him would most likely end up hampering Dalot’s development, which would be far from ideal.

With finances likely to be tight, it would be better if the club focused on strengthening more important areas, such as the defensive midfield and the right-wing.
Meunier, despite his experience and availability on a free transfer, is not what the club need right now.
