Man United enquire about defenders including 21-year-old Ghanaian from La Liga

Manchester United eyeing move for Real Valladolid defender Mohammed Salisu

According to ESPN, Manchester United are keeping tabs on Real Valladolid defender Mohammed Salisu amongst others. This comes following the doubts raised by Victor Lindelof’s recent performances.

The Red Devils are keen to sign another center-back to compete with the Swede to partner Harry Maguire. There are no plans to sell Lindelof with the player set to stay having just recently signed a new contract. (h/t ESPN)

Although he has improved in recent months, Lindelof has endured a mixed bag of fortunes at Old Trafford.

Salisu is a Ghanaian defender who has enjoyed a breakout season for Valladolid. He has made 28 appearances this season, contributing with one goal and one assist.

The 21-year-old joined the Valladolid youth setup from African Talent Football Academy in 2017. He spent a spell among the reserves before making the step up to the first team.

His contract at the Estadio José Zorrilla runs till 2022. He has shown enough to suggest he has the potential to become a competent defender in the future. A giant at the back, he is also a force to be reckoned with in the air.

United do have a number of options already at the club who can provide an alternative to Lindelof if needed.

Eric Bailly recently signed a two-year contract extension while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can also call on academy graduate Axel Tuanzebe. All this without taking into account Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo, both of whom are out on loan.
