According to Sky Sport Italia (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United have received fresh hope in their efforts to sign Serbian superstar Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

The Le Aquile sporting director Igli Tare openly admitted that it is up to the Serbian international if he wants to stay in Rome. It suggests that the club won’t get in his way if he so chooses to leave. (h/t Daily Mail)

“The player’s desire is crucial. Generally speaking, if a player thinks that their time is up and wants to go somewhere else, it shouldn’t be a problem.”

Tare’s comments are in stark contrast to Lazio’s previous stance that the player was not for sale. He is unlikely to come cheap though, with the Italians expecting at least £80m for the Serbian.

The Serbian has been one of Lazio’s best players as Simone Inzaghi’s side have mounted a spirited title challenge to dethrone Juventus. The 25-year-old scored five goals and seven assists in 31 appearances for the Italians before the season was suspended.
