Jose Mourinho ready to hand Liverpool a transfer blow by moving for £12m World Cup star

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is ready to move for Swiss superstar Xherdan Shaqiri, according to reports from the Sun.

The Stoke City attacker was relegated with the club at the end of last season but the 26-year-old has said that he would be staying in the Premier League next season and would reveal his destination soon.

Mourinho is said to have been impressed by the performances of the Stoke man in the World Cup for Switzerland. The 26-year-old scored one goal and provided an assist as the Swiss crashed out of the tournament at the hands of Sweden.

Shaqiri, who can play in a number of positions, will cost a paltry £12m if he is to be purchased from the Potters. Our rivals Liverpool are also interested in Shaqiri and it could boil down to which club offers more to the attacker in terms of minutes on the pitch.

Shaqiri is extremely talented and can play either as an attacking midfielder or as a winger for us and would give our team another option in the attack.

He could be an inexpensive signing in this transfer window and would be the X-factor in our attack as we look to wrestle the Premier League title away from Manchester City.

An attack comprising of Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, with Shaqiri thrown into the mix would provide us with a number of combinations to field on the pitch.

It will be interesting to see which club Shaqiri chooses and it would be brilliant if he turns up in the Red of United next season.
