(Image) Luke Shaw Enjoys Late-night Christmas Shopping Trip With His Wag Anouska Santos

Luke Shaw is set to be given another chance to save his Manchester United career, over the hectic Christmas period. The 22-year-old defender has made just one Premier League appearance so far this season, with manager Jose Mourinho opting to use Ashley Young in a makeshift left-back role.

While Young has impressed in that position, the United manager is aware of the winger’s history with injuries and is keen to protect him in the festive period, on the advice of fitness staffs at Old Trafford.

This news could be music to Shaw’s ears as the left-back will be upbeat to prove his detractors wrong during the hectic schedule, where the Red Devils play six gruelling games in the space of just 17 days. However, the United player was spotted doing some late-night Christmas shopping on Monday with girlfriend Anouska Santos at Trafford Centre.

Shaw, dressed all in black with a woolly hat to cover himself from the frosty winter weather, was strolling in the shopping centre with Anouska, who was very keen to take a look at the window of a jewellery store. The pair enjoyed their time together, as they walked around Manchester’s Trafford Centre, with just a few days left until Christmas.

It has been a start-stop season for Shaw, who has played just four times for United since the start of the campaign, suffering fitness problems. Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez has been keen to land the left-back on loan during January, while Shaw himself is said to be eager to reunite with former Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham.

The England international returned to the United starting XI against Bournemouth in midweek, as United won 1-0. Shaw was adjudged the Man of the Match for his outstanding showing, with Romelu Lukaku scoring the all-important goal to give United all three points at Old Trafford.

Mourinho spoke about the England defender after the game, stating that he was impressed with the left-back’s display and improvement.

“Luke started so-so, which is normal but then improving, improving and improving, confidence levels going really high and he had a fantastic hour of football,” said Mourinho.

“Then is normal, physically he was feeling the cramps were coming, Eddie was not far from me and understood that, so they tried to force a little bit from that side, I had to bring Ashley on to protect the team and Luke.”

However, Shaw was an unused substitute in Manchester United’s win over West Brom on Sunday but is expected to start against Bristol City in the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
