Lukaku Out, Rashford To Lead The Line – Strongest 4-2-3-1 Man Utd Line-up To Face Bristol City

Predicted Manchester United Line-up To Face Bristol City In The Carabao Cup

Manchester United have a trip to Championship side Bristol on Wednesday as the Red Devils look to book their place in the last four of the Carabao Cup.

With the festive period soon to start, United manager Jose Mourinho is expected to rotate his side. Our gaffer can make few changes to the side that won 2-1 at West Brom on Sunday in the Premier League.

Team News

Antonio Valencia is likely to miss out after limping off against West Brom on Sunday, while Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini remain sidelined. Defender Eric Bailly is out for up to three months as he has to undergo surgery on his ankle.

Meanwhile, Paul Pogba has served his three-match ban and will be available for selection on Wednesday.

Probable Manchester United XI

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Manager: Jose Mourinho

Sergio Romero (GK)

David De Gea has been a pillar at the back for United but will be rested for this tie, which would see Sergio Romero deputise. The Argentine is a reliable customer and has performed really well whenever called upon.

Matteo Darmian (RB)

With Antonio Valencia injured, Matteo Darmian should get the nod to start at right-back.

Victor Lindelof (CB)

Lindelof has shown signs of improvement lately and will start at the heart of the defence, giving Chris Smalling a well-needed rest.

Victor Lindelof

Marcos Rojo (CB)

Back after the nasty head injury that he suffered in the Manchester derby, partnering Lindelof at centre-back should be Marcos Rojo.

Luke Shaw (LB)

Back to full fitness and form, Shaw is expected to get another shot at left-back with Ashley Young set to be rested. The former Southampton teenager performed exceptionally well in his last two starts and would be eager to impress our boss again.

Ander Herrera (CM)

Ander Herrera has not looked an inch of the player he was last season which won him the Manchester United Player of the year award. With injuries to Fellaini and Carrick, the Spaniard is in line to get another chance to stamp his authority in the first-team.

Scott McTominay (CM)

Scott McTominay had a wonderful outing in the midfield against Bournemouth last week and he might return to the starting line-up alongside Herrera.

Juan Mata (RW)

Mata has blown hot and cold over the course of the season and might be preferred over the out of sorts Henrikh Mkhitaryan on the right wing against the Championship side.

Jesse Lingard (CAM)

Lingard has proven to be quite influential when it comes to orchestrating attacks and Mourinho is expected to hand him another start due to his rich vein of form lately.

Anthony Martial (LW)

Martial has sparked a remarkable u-turn in his career. His incisiveness and accuracy will be key to unlock the Bristol City defence.

Marcus Rashford (ST)

Romelu Lukaku has regained his scoring touch with 3 goals in four matches across all competitions, but he should be rested tomorrow, meaning Marcus Rashford could get a rare start in a central position. His pace and movement can cause the host’s defence a number of problems and the young Englishman will look to get on the score-sheet tomorrow.
