Paul Pogba Explains Why He Turned Down Real Madrid And Manchester United Fans Will Love This

Paul Pogba has struggled in the new season

Paul Pogba has explained why he snubbed Real Madrid in favour of a move to Manchester United at the start of last season.

The France international left Juventus in 2016 for a then world record £89m transfer to return to Old Trafford, where he previously came up through the academy ranks. Yet, Pogba has confirmed the deal could have been sealed for him to move to another club.

In Jose Mourinho’s first season at Manchester United last year, Pogba won the EFL Cup and the Europa League but could have been part of the Real team that won the UEFA Champions League and Spanish La Liga. However, the Frenchman is convinced he made the right move by linking up with Mourinho and revealed he has no regrets of rejoining the Red Devils.

Speaking on the Beyond the Pitch podcast, Pogba opened up about the summer of 2016 and confirmed that the Spanish giants did approach him.

“To be honest, Real Madrid came to me and I was thinking to go there, and I was thinking to go to Manchester United too,” he said.

“But I always felt it in my heart. My heart told me to come back here [Manchester], I don’t know why; I didn’t know what was going to happen.

“But I did it, and I don’t regret. I never regret my choice,” Pogba added.

Pogba made 51 appearances in all competitions for Manchester United last season but was heavily criticised by the pundits as well as the fans regardless of him helping the club win the EFL Cup in Wembley and Europa League in Stockholm.

This season, he started off so well and became the hub of our attack as United blew teams away before he injured his hamstring in the Champions League clash against Basel in September.

However, the ex-Juventus man returned to action after a two months spell on the sidelines by scoring and claiming man-of-the-match honours in the 4-1 win against Newcastle at Old Trafford in November. Pogba is currently serving a three-match suspension after being sent off against Arsenal earlier this month and will sit out tonight’s Premier League game against Bournemouth.

We sorely missed his services in the Manchester derby, which City won 2-1 at our home. Pogba will also miss the trip to Hawthorns to face West Brom on Sunday.

Let’s hope our midfield maestro returns to the squad after suspension with a bang!
