The Italian full-back has proven his worth with his recent performances. Speedy and agile, Darmian doesn’t let wingers get past him so effortlessly. He has done a good job providing crosses inside the box. Chris Smalling has been a beast and the main defender in the team. The defensive department relies on him. The Argentine defender, Marcos Rojo might be considered for the right-back job over Varela, given his hard work and determination to be all over the pitch.
Midfielders: Michael Carrick, Morgan Schneiderlin, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Anthony Martial
With Bastian Schweinsteiger out injured, there is no doubt as to who should be starting in the midfield. Carrick and Schneiderlin might seem to be similar to each other but Schneiderlin was brutal in the midfield against Manchester City whereas Carrick’s form has been inconsistent. Michael Carrick will however be preferred over Fellaini.
Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial are the first choice wingers after few inconsistent performances from Memphis Depay. Memphis is struggling to get into his old PSV form at United. Until then, Lingard and Martial will remain the preferred flank players.
Striker: Marcus Rashford
Rashford is living his dream. He has scored important goals for the team and is currently, the first-choice striker, which has forced Martial to move at the wings. The youngster’s work rate has been immense which has impressed the club and the fans.
