Giggs Was Good, But It Was Rooney Who Made The Difference vs Olympiakos

Although many had already written us off, Manchester United went on to beat Olympiakos 3-0 last night and progress into the final eight of the Champions League. We may be the weakest looking team left in the tournament, but there is no reason we cannot keep going in the competition and cause some shocks.

A lot of the focus after the game was on Ryan Giggs, and understandably so.

At 40-years-old the Welshman provided our players with confidence and guided them to the victory without playing incredibly himself, though many saw last night as his shining moment of the season.

He did make a couple of key passes and sparked a couple of attacks, but he was quite wasteful on the ball on a few occasions.

The man who I think deserved a lot more credit was Wayne Rooney. While Robin van Persie stole the headlines as a result of his hat-trick, Rooney was the man who ran things in from a deeper role.

The England international had 66 touches during the game, completed six dribbles and made five tackles.

He also claimed an assist, had three shots at goal and made two clearances.

Yes Giggs was good, but it was Rooney who made the difference, for me.
