Manchester United defender Jonny Evans talks about the unforgettable match against Burnley
Manchester United defender Jonny Evans shared his thoughts on the feeling he had before playing his 200th game for the club against Burnley on Saturday.
The Red Devils broke their losing streak after winning the game against the Clarets, 0-1 at Turf Moor. Evans had a great outing as he assisted United captain Bruno Fernandes for the only goal of the night.
The 35-year-old defender is on his second stint at the club after signing as a free agent during the summer.
Evans spoke to TNT Sports (h/t BBC) to share his excitement after donning the United jersey for his 200th game. He said:
“I loved every minute of it. Before the game you get a feeling, I couldn’t wait, just pure excitement. Coming up here on the bus, I was buzzing. That was my 200th game for Manchester United, I never thought I would ever reach that figure – the best night of my life.”
The Northern Ireland international scored a brilliant goal through a header from the corner kick taken by Sergio Reguilón. However, the goal was disallowed after a VAR check as Rasmus Højlund was obstructing the goalkeeper from an offside position.
Evans didn’t let the disallowed goal ruin his night as he lofted an incredible diagonal long ball to assist Fernandes.
The 35-year-old started the game due to an injury to primary centre-back, Lisandro Martinez. Evans fulfilled his defensive responsibility by helping United achieve their second clean sheet of the season.
