Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt is facing serious legal troubles with the German police amid pursuit from Manchester United
Manchester United’s pursuit of Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt could face serious complications as he deals with legal troubles. The Red Devils are targeting the Dutch defender to bolster their squad further after signing Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro.
United suffered from a severe injury crisis last season that complicated their season and poor individual performances triggered more unwanted misery. Their manager Erik ten Hag cannot afford to face similar issues next season as he needs to break the cycle.
The Red Devils are bolstering their squad, particularly the defence department and adding another defender is crucial to their plans. De Ligt has an impressive history despite his young age, having played for big clubs like Ajax, Juventus and Bayern.
The only reason that German giants are contemplating his sale is because of the serious competition within the current squad. Recurring injuries caused De Ligt to drop down the pecking order last season, but they still appreciate his qualities.
The German publication Bild reported that De Ligt could face serious punishment if authorities find him guilty of the hit-and-run. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning near Bayern’s ground on Sabener Strabe as its witness recognized the Dutch defender.

Man United are definitely assessing the situation from afar as any serious implication could force them to change their target. The Red Devils face their local rivals Manchester City in the Community Shield game which commences the new season.

As the transfer deadline day also approaches after the beginning of the new season, United needs to move fast. De Ligt’s potential unavailability would mean that they need to reassess the transfer market and find a suitable alternative. They are already assessing multiple targets for the number six position to have a quality player playing alongside Kobbie Mainoo.
