Bruno Fernandes recognises support from Yannick Bolasie as Portugal crawl past Slovenia in UEFA Euro 2024
Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes acknowledged the support of his former teammate Yannick Bolasie on Instagram. The former DR Congo international put out a story on Instagram backing Fernandes during the penalty shootout of Portugal’s Round of 16 tie against Slovenia, which the former won 3-0.
In response, the Man United skipper acknowledged Bolasie’s support with an Instagram story of his own.
The two played together at Sporting, when Bolasie moved there on loan from Everton at the start of the 2019/20 season, the same campaign in the middle of which Fernandes moved to Man United.
Fernandes’ extended summer continues as Portugal prolong their stay at Euro 2024 and now will face a quarter-final tie against France later this week.
After another productive season at club level, which saw him produce 15 goals and 13 appearances for United in 48 appearances across all competitions, Fernandes was linked with a move away from Old Trafford, having reportedly grown tired of United’s apparent lack of ambition.
The rumours have died down to some degree since United’s FA Cup win, however, even though the likes of Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Barcelona, and the Saudi Pro League have all been touted as his next potential destinations, with United also reportedly interested in extending his contract.
Fernandes’ current £240k-a-week contract at United is set to run until June 2026.
Fernandes needs all the support he can get
What we saw in the Euros last night was a group of players trying to get a performance for their country while one man up top was too busy coming to terms with his own mortality and hurting his team’s chances in the process.
That all may change; we all know how things can be with Cristiano Ronaldo, though things currently definitely look heavily stacked against his teammates.
